Emergency food in your Bug out bag

May 27, 2009 - "Emergency food in your Bug out bag" By Joseph Parish. The main reason that many people fail to utilize the popular military MRE meals is simply after trying one of the packages they readily admit they do not like them. This is understandable since these meals are not for everyone’s taste. I personally have used the MRE's and find that they really are not all that bad. The benefit of them is that after you have consumed your meal you can simply burn all the trash. Click here

Alternate weapons for the survivalist

May 26, 2009 - "Alternate weapons for the survivalist" By Joseph Parish. We currently reside in an age where horrific changes are occurring around our country. The Media can influence emergency preparedness

May 25, 2009 - "The Media can influence emergency preparedness" By Joseph Parish. It always stops me dead in my tracks when I see what a massive effect the media can have upon public influences. As an example, during our last presidential election the media embraced Obama with open arms and as a result it gained him unknown amounts of public support. The same idea is firmly implanted with preparedness. The media can make or break communities preparedness plans. Click here

Escape from a Death Camp

May 24, 2009 - "Escape from a Death Camp" By Joseph Parish. With all the exposure recently generated regarding John Demjanjuk’s and his deportation to Germany I have resolved myself to write this article with a survivalist slant to it. Mr. Demjanjuk is scheduled to stand trial for the suspected allegation of accessory to the murder involving 29,000 Jews at the Sobibor death camp. After three decades of litigation the assumed Nazi guard will finally stand trial. Here are a few important thoughts which come to my mind when I consider this situation and possible similar scenarios that could happen to us here in America. Click here

Improve Survival Food Storage - Oxygen Absorbers and Nitrogen Packing

May 21, 2009 - "Improve Survival Food Storage - Oxygen Absorbers and Nitrogen Packing" By Kevin Taylor. The freeze drying process removes 98% of the water from food, stopping bacterial growth as well as killing insects and their eggs. Beyond freeze drying further to preserve food and increase shelf life, oxygen is the main enemy. If the food is stored in a way that it is not exposed to oxygen, the shelf life can reach 25 to 30 years. Shelf life here refers to the food maintaining it's properties of nutritional value, taste, and appearance. Click here

Could we experience meat rationing again?

May 20, 2009 - "Could we experience meat rationing again?" by Joseph Parish. On May the 3rd of 1944 the federal government and in particular the Office of Price Administration made available all meats which were previously rationed except for beef roast and beef steaks. Unfortunately at the same time they announced that they would cut in half the “red points” which were required to purchase staples such as butter, evaporated milk, cheese, beef steaks and roasts. In effect what this provided was that the average citizen would actually receive less of these desired products then they previously had. Click here

Apocalypse Type Survival Plans

May 17, 2009 - "Apocalypse Type Survival Plans" By Joseph Parish. You can easily find that some survivalist have no sort of survival plan what so ever. I recently spoke with several that are in this frame of mind. They readily state that there are several reasons behind their mad thinking but the most predominant is that they claim to be one of those people who would least likely be able to survive in any sort of apocalyptic crisis. Federal budget cuts and the swine flu problem

May 16, 2009 - "Federal budget cuts and the Swine flu problem" By Joseph Parish. There is no getting around the idea that our economy is hurting badly. Not only are the normal households trying to cut expenses and balance their budgets but the federal government is actively seeking ways to cut their costs as well. Many federally sponsored programs are on the verge of losing all or some of their urgently needed funding as our government tries desperately to sort out this financial nightmare. Click here

You got it right Mr. Stephen King

May 13, 2009 - You got it right Mr. Stephen King!" By Joseph Parish. I am confident that there is just about no one in the western world who has not heard of Stephen King. Being an avid collector of Stephen King’s books I have managed to amass every first edition that was published including several with both a European and American version. I have always considered “The Stand” to be Mr. King’s best work so far. He stylishly managed to merge the unexpected and unusual with a genuine possibility for a climatic episode. It so happens that perchance Stephen was foreseeing in his imagination of this novel for it is highly possible that we are presently in the same state of affairs as the characters portrayed within his book. Here is a fictional piece that I recently wrote. It should be taken with a grain of salt. Click here

The ultimate fire safety device

May 11, 2009 - "The ultimate fire safety device" By Joseph Parish. When evaluating the likelihood of installing fire escape ladders you are presented with two viable choices. You can install permanent fire escape steps to the outside of your home which has certain disadvantages. I would caution you greatly on this decision. Permanent steps are a sure invitation for burglars and others who may mean to harm you. In addition the initial cost is considerably more then using the portable rope ladder. The rope version is probably your best bet but you will have to instruct those who will use it in its proper operation. Click here

Instant survival skill actions

May 6, 2009 - "Instant Survival Skill Actions" By Joseph Parish. Survival skills should be polish to such an degree that at a moments notice you would know instantaneously what to do. Time in urgent situations is critical and you do not have a moment to spare. It doesn’t matter if the emergency involves an automobile accident or possibly a tornado sighted in your immediate area. Time is of the utmost significance. Split second decisions can mean the difference between life or death. Click here
